The interior Ministry headed by Cabinet Secretary (CS) Fred Matiang’i has been dragged into a new fake multi-billion arms deal. The new scandal has the same old faces who were mentioned in an earlier Sh39 billion scandal in which former Sports Cabinet Secretary Rashid Echesa was linked.
The new scandal, according to the Nation is led by mastermind Jacob Oloo, and his team who had already finessed a firm based in Mali, Prenium Interservice, Sh7.5 million commitment fees for a contract to supply 45,000 riffles and 15,000 pistols to the National Police Service.
In documents, Prenium is alleged to have written a letter to the team after they presented themselves as officials from the Interior Ministry, with the letter copied to the Police Commissioner, a post that was scrapped in the new constitution.
“The effective delivery schedule of the 60,000 (45,000 riffles and 15,000 pistols) will be between four to six months,” read the letter dated the 20th of May.
The deal went south after Oloo allegedly tried to con his fellow fraudsters the Sh7.5 million leading to a fallout and alleged death threats, the member of the Law Society of Kenya is said to have reported to Kasarani Police station that his life was in danger and named John Maingi as the prime suspect.
The case which is currently ongoing comes just a few months after the Directorate of Criminal Investigations unearthed the Sh39 billion fake military arms deal that involved officials from the Office of the Deputy President and left a trail of bodies.
