It is now a common thing to expect Kenya biggest telco Safaricom to let Kenyans down. Today, afternoon, Kenyans have gone online to complain about MPESA outage.
Recently, we revealed that Safaricom has caused so much pain to the business fraternity using its till number. A case is in court, with a push and pull between the East Africa Data Handlers and Safaricom over loss of money held for till number.
Over the past few months, since Bob Collymore died, strange happenings have been taking place inside the giant telco. Not that Bob Collymore was good, but the announcement that a Kenyan, Peter Ndegwa will be taking over at Safaricom at the start of next month. It seems like the sharks have come out. It is ‘our time to eat’, being the eternal motto of Kenyans.
Is this MPESA outage like the 10th or 12th major system glitch at Safaricom?
Suggestions to wean the economy off MPESA has borne no fruit, the giant Telco might march to the grave with a big chunk of Kenyan economy if it ever goes the way of KPLC, Kenya Airways, Kenya Railways which were run by Kenyans to the ground. (yes)
