A source has brought to light the challenging conditions faced by casual workers at the National Cereals and Produce Board (NCPB) depots in the North Rift region.

I want to highlight something about NCPB, mostly in North Rift. The casuals who are working under 21-day contracts are suffering. These guys are at the forefront of running most of the depots in North Rift during the planting and purchase season. But when the season is low, like from August to October, they are retrenched unceremoniously after working tirelessly from Monday to Sunday. This situation is so painful.
Secondly, during the employment process last year, they brought in new staff who had never worked in any NCPB depot and left out those who have been working under the 21-day contracts. These new cohorts are now being taught by those on 21-day contracts. Then, after they have learned the skills, the original workers are retrenched. This is so painful.
Please highlight this issue.”
Urgent action is needed to address these issues and ensure fair treatment for all workers involved.
