A concerned parent at Karen Hospital Nursing College has raised concerns about the mismanagement of the institution.
The parent, who wishes to remain anonymous to protect their child, has highlighted several issues that have been raised by students at the college.
According to the parent, the college is run like an elementary school, with micro-management of students.
Despite being adults, students are treated like the institution owns them.
Some of the issues raised by the parent include a sudden increase in fees without consultation, inadequate and poorly prepared meals, transportation charges without corresponding service, and excessive suspension of students for flimsy reasons.
The parent also alleges that the college’s deputy principal, Martin, is very harsh to the students, meddles in their private lives, and concerns himself with issues that are not part of his job description.
There are also rumours that Martin impregnated a girl and the school covered it up by chasing her away.
Further allegations include the suspension of a married woman who was asked to bring her husband to the college to discuss her behavior and the expulsion of a student without a letter for drinking alcohol.
The parent adds that the college administrator, Juliet Gikonyo, is difficult to reach as her secretary blocks parents from seeing her.
Some students have even threatened to protest, and others have begun searching for alternative accommodation outside the college.
