It was a day of love and celebration for gospel singer Daddy Owen and the daughter of the president, Charlene Chelagat Ruto, as they introduced each other to their families in a grand ceremony held in Owen’s rural home in Kakamega on Friday, December 23.
According to a local publication, the occasion which was attended by a select few celebrities and Owen’s family was described by sources as “an introduction ceremony” that confirmed the relationship between the award-winning artist and the First Daughter, who have been spotted together in various charitable events.
Charlene wore a dazzling red dress and joined the village women in dancing to Luhya songs, while Owen donned a brown and black designer shirt and a black hat.
The couple seemed joyful and at ease as they interacted with the guests and partook in the celebrations.
The ceremony was also spiced up by Isikuti dancers, who thrilled the crowd with their lively and traditional performance.
A variety of food was offered, including chicken, fish, beef, ugali, and other local specialties, as well as customary drinks such as ‘Busaa’.
Owen’s mother, Margaret Mwatia, who lost her husband in 2017, received Charlene with a warm Luhya land reception and exchanged gifts with her.
Sources disclosed that Charlene brought thoughtful presents and some household items, while Owen’s mother returned the favour with gifts such as farm produce.
At one point, Owen wrapped a Maasai ‘shuka’ around Charlene’s waist as part of the ceremony, signifying his approval and devotion to her.
The couple also shared a kiss, which elicited cheers and applause from the guests.
Owen’s elder sister, Loise Mwatia, and younger brothers Rufftone, Slejj, and Fidel reportedly joined the ceremony, along with Charlene’s close friends and a large security team.

In November, Owen posted photos of himself playing basketball with Charlene, igniting rumours of a budding romance.

He later denied the rumours in a radio interview, saying that they were only friends and had many projects they were collaborating on.
“You know there are some things that shouldn’t be talked about. Some are serious, man… Let’s not go there. You’re my brother; I wouldn’t want to put you in a tough spot,” Daddy Owen said.
However, sources close to the couple said that they have been in a relationship for over a year and that they are planning to tie the knot soon.

“They are madly in love and they are not keeping it a secret anymore. They are planning to have a huge wedding next year and invite all their fans and friends. This is a perfect match and we wish them all the best,” a source close to the couple told this writer.
