Hurlingham traders decry forced eviction by Rubis Energy

Jean-Christian Bergeron, MD Rubis Energy

Congratulations on appointment to Rubis Kenya Managing Director.

I write to you on behalf of the previous tenants of the Hurlingham Rubis Site. I would like to inform you of the way all the tenants were unceremoniously kicked out. The genesis of this fateful event started when the tenants namely Siyara Pharmacy, Amazone wines and spirits, and other small traders were served with a notice to vacate our businesses from the station with a backdated letter with immediate effect.

We have operated our businesses in that site for over 10 years fulfilling our obligation faithfully. Efforts to mitigate this your management fell on deaf ears.

They claimed to have sent an email to that effect to which none of the tenants received nor acknowledged. There is no evidence of receipt from either party.  This led to forceful evictions which led to loss of Sh15 Million of all our trading stocks by the firm sent to oversee the evictions.

The Kenya Police investigated this event and prepared all documentation for the director of prosecution to prosecute your managers. However, your personal assistant, Pius Omollo interfere with the investigations and charges were dropped by the office of prosecution.

Be informed that the tenants you forcefully evicted serve the same community that you want to set up new  for them. They are aware of what happened. You may set up shop but you don’t have the blessings of the community. Evictions took place right in the middle of a pandemic. What could be worse than stine cold actions undertaken by your Management. More than 15 families were left without their regular income.

Total Kenya: Tales of slavery, intimidation, harassment & impunity by the oil marketer

As you enjoy your stewardship, reflect on this email. Its now in your conscience whether you delete or not. The leadership team that serve under you will be a reflection of you destroying valid businesses within the Rubis network.

The following individuals are well known for scandals, bribery and the sooner your disengage them the better for you or you will go down with them.

  1. Pius Omollo

  2. Fred Patta

  3. Angel Nyambura

  4. Lucy Kamau

  5. Your Procurement director.

Already all your shops are under auction in the market to the highest bidders receiving more money than any paid individual in your org. Bribery is lively at Rubis.

Lastly, I will be fair to you. This email has been bcc to several correspondence for their information. We are looking forward to you closing this matter from your office
