Read their statement below.
RE: CYBER-ATTACK ON KARI WEBSITE
Early this morning one of our former institutes, Kenya Agricultural Research Institute (KARI) website, came under cyber-attack, and inappropriate content displayed alongside research technologies. As you may be aware, Kenya Agricultural Research Institute-KARI, and three (3) other research institutes namely Kenya Sugar Research Foundation -KESREF, Tea Research Institute of Kenya (TRFK) and Coffee Research Institute- (CRF) were disbanded and deregistered through the Kenya Agricultural and Research Act of 2013 to form the current day Kenya Agricultural and Livestock Research Organization (KALRO).
Since KALRO took over the assets and liabilities of the former institution, we take great exemption to cyber criminais who created, registered the fraudulent website, installed malware and posted content of nefarious nature. Our ICT team have since established that the criminals based in a foreign country used fake domain registration details to register the said domain. We have since written to the cybercrime unit for assistance.
We wish to assure members of the public, partners, and other stakeholder that our website www.kairo.org is secure and accessible. We would also like to assure everybody that our services in all 16 institutes and 57 centres around the country are fully operational especially during this trying period of COVID19 Pandemic. We also request the public to be alert and to block access to the site (https://www.kari.org/) as it violates the Data Protection Act 2019 and moral ethics upon which our country is grounded.
Signed
