CAPTION: Defence Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale with President Ruto and Chief of General Staff General Robert Kabochi at the KDF troops flag off to DRC
A section of soldiers from the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) is calling out mistreatment within their ranks.
A guide allowance meant for disabled officers is selectively being remitted by the current government.
“Hello! Please I want you to echo this, why is Kenya Defence Forces specifically Kenya airforce victimizing disabled soldiers? There was an allowance called ” GUIDE ALLOWANCE” for disabled soldiers of Kes20k per month which was introduced by the former government, unfortunately, this money is being paid selectively leaving other disabled soldiers out,’ the source complained.
The source confirmed that some soldiers are using assistive devices which need regular maintenance which they cannot afford.
“It is very expensive,” the source lamented.
He wondered, “Why are they not paying all disabled soldiers who have even been clearly registered by PLWD?”
Tax exemption
The Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) exempts such soldiers from paying tax.
However, the department of defence headquarters (DOD) isn’t honouring this.
“Again the same soldiers’ despite being cleared by KRA to be tax exempted and given exemption certificates. But they are still being taxed (the employer has continued to remit their taxes even after publishing their tax exemption certificates), they are being denied their right as by the Kenyan constitution”, the source complained.
DOD headquarters must help alleviate this suffering
