A source says that nurses in Mombasa County who were employed 7 months ago on permanent and pensionable terms have only been paid the October salary and nothing more.
The nurses don’t even have a medical cover for which they are entitled.
They are accusing the Joho empire of crooks and slayqueens for being so uncaring of their plights.
“Dr Khadija Shikelly who is director of medical services is mum, toeing the Joh dynasty line while we are suffering”, said one doctor on condition of anonymity.
We’ve been informed that Dr. Shikelly’s office is rife with nepotism and swahilism (tribalism).
How are this Kenyans expected to survive with no salary? They have families.
While the governor is overseas slaying. Nurses are suffering.
Health workers’ woes
In August 2019, Health workers in Mombasa County downed tools over delays in salaries.
The workers who were protesting their delayed July salary, numbering 4000, paralyzed critical services including health were among the hardest hit after doctors and nurses boycotted duties, leaving patients to be attended to by trainees.
The strike which was led by Kenya National Union of Nurses Mombasa branch secretary, Stanley Mwailogho, raised the same issues as the ones we’ve written about above.
Nothing has changed since.
Then as now, the words of the Mr. Mwailogho rings true, “We cannot be cheated every now and then. We want money, we don’t care if there is a problem between the national and county government,” said Mr Mwailogho then.
It looks like the only language the county understands is total disruption of services.
