Welcome to Garissa County. A county where the governor, Ali Bunow Korane, is accused of forging academic certificates and of attempted murder of former finance executive Idris Mukhtar.
CNYAKUNDI.COM received the following information from a disgruntled Garissa resident.
Employment corruption in Garissa County
Garissa county governor arm twisted the county public service board to irregularly employ his family alone in the health department. The recent positions interviewed by the CPSB in the department of health which advertised 130 vacancies were dished to candidates from one family for recruitment – the family of the governor.
Massive employment irregularities are not peculiar to health department alone but crosscutting in all sectors of Garissa county. In the current regime, clanism, nepotism and bribery are the order of the day contrary to qualifications.
The breakdown of the recruits for various positions is as follows: 4 out of 6 medical officers, 25 out of 34 nursing officers, 5 out of 5 PHOs, 7 out of 9 lab officers, 10 out of 10 COs, 5 out of 6 medical emergency were all from the family of the governor. From the statistics, this clearly indicates more than 95% of all positions were given to the family of the governor which is unfair, unjust, bias and also an emplacement to the current leadership of Garissa.
Youth from other clans who are qualified and are able are denied employment opportunities in the county as merits and qualifications have no space.
The question that beg for answer is, as a county, how can we attain equal service delivery at all sub county levels when a mere recruitment process favoured the ruling governor’s family only?. Or do we just seat back and watch when health service system in all sub counties like Ijara, Hulugho and Lagedera are collapsing just because they are sidelined by the county government pertaining the job recruitments and service delivery making the youth from Samawathal family hopeless, jobless as the health institutions in the entire ijara region rendered ill-fated.
To fill the gap left by the fled non local health workers, many had opined that Ijara people will be given priority in the recent recruitment but not avail. It was the ruling clan who has taken over in all positions. This sent wave of shock to Ijara people as their qualified sons and daughters were left out amid health centre collapse in the region due to under staff.
The politically intended TL rhetoric is not fetching any fruit for the larger sama family. The youth from the region are sidelined in every sector ranging from county employment to bursary disbursement. Majority of the current hustlers who are educated but lost hope and faith in the county are from Ijara. The leaders from the region have buried their heads in the sand.
What are the leaders from samawathal who are holding in the top county executives positions doing about such mistreatment to their people as majority of their educated youth are denied jobs leading to collapse of social amenities like hospitals? The Ijara has the majority of educated youth but least absorbed when it comes to county employment.
Of all the current recruited public health officers who are five in number those with best qualifications were from Ijara but deliberately left out and their places taken by one family yet Ijara hospitals and dispensaries need their services. Likewise Dadaab and Lagdera were never considered neither.
This is not the first time we are encountering such kind of irregular employment and unless we speak out as a community and as youth who are majorly affected by the mess.
Majority raised a concern of the main benefit of education if the most qualified and best deemed candidates are thrown out when it come to job opportunities.
Is there a specific family who is more deserving than the rest and how did the CPSB arrived the criteria of the recruitment by selecting candidates from one family? Of all the 130 recruits how can one family take more 90 positions ( governor’s family) and another get only 8 positions( samawathal family) who were parts of the government?.
What is the need of advertising vacancies whose occupants will be handpicked by a single person from a single family?
If the governor is there to employ his core family alone contrary to the expectations of many, where would other clans get from such opportunities? What made governor’s family employability rate higher than the rest combined?
We are even asking the eight SAMA who are given the appointment to return and leave it for that family who the governor think are more deserving than others.
We will contest this incompetent administration through public demonstrations and take our complains to other relevant government agencies until we get genuine answers for the reason as to why the governor has unilaterally handpicked his single family for all the positions.
