In January 2021, students at the Kenya Methodist University (KEMU) protested fee increment.
The struggling institution of higher learning had tripled tuition fees.
In documents seen by cnyakundi.com, school fees paid by new students and continuing was Sh27,500 students and Sh20,500 respectively. That now has been increased to Sh61,000 and Sh54,000 for new students and continuing students respectively.
Some of them were expelled.
“I am a student at Kenya Methodist University. Following the malicious fee increment, students peacefully protested against it and Even went to media to address the government. The management decided to close the school and have expelled everyone who was in the media (when the students in the press only addressed the government to come for their help). The school seems to be unbothered and has resolved to reopen on 8th without reviewing the fees structure nor recalling the students. Please help us unmask this money laundry station. HIDE MY IDENTITY PLEASE”, a student wrote to cnyakundi.com
