This guy’s campaign slogan was ‘tiga entakana egambe‘ which loosely translates to ‘give the orphan a chance to lead’. Among the Abagusii, orphans and stepchildren are often characterised and symbolised as poor innocent souls denied food by their wealthy and well to do relatives or step parents. This slogan struck a cord with the rural voters in South Mugirango, who poured ‘sympathy voted’ into his basket as a result of which he became MP.
This picture of the orphan turned MPig gobbling up food as poor kids look on expectantly as he remains unmoved by their hunger, appetite and expectation is symbolic of the about turn that he made the moment he set foot in ‘Bunge’ and wormed his way into Mashamba’s shirt pocket.
