Quickmart Narok Branch Opening Marred by Allegations of Unpaid Labor and Broken Promises

A group of job seekers has leveled serious accusations against popular supermarket chain Quickmart.

These job seekers allege that after being recruited for positions at Quickmart’s new Narok branch, they were left uncompensated and without further contact following their initial training and stint of work.

The new branch, located at Basic Moran Narok at the junction of Nairobi-Narok-Bomet Highway, was launched amid much fanfare and promises of a unique shopping experience and job creation.

“We are thrilled to open our 60th store in Narok and expand our footprint in Kenya,” said Betty Wamaitha, Quickmart’s Chief Marketing Officer, during the official opening.

The store promised to offer a wide range of high-quality products and exceptional customer service.

However, the glittering inauguration has been overshadowed by claims from a group of job seekers who allege they were used by Quickmart for the initial busy period and then discarded without pay or further communication

“We were selected in Early Feb and required to report for training in Nairobi,” one of the job seekers shared in an email.

Despite the Narok location of the branch, the recruits were asked to travel to Nairobi for training, shouldering expenses that for many required borrowing.

The branch commenced operations on February 16th, with the job seekers reporting for duty from 6 am, often working until midnight.

“We slaved ourselves off with hopes to be deployed after the 5 days,” the email detailed.

Yet, after the five days of labor, they were told to return home and wait for deployment letters, which have not materialized even after four months.

This situation has sparked a call for a boycott of Quickmart, with the hashtag #BOYCOTTQUICKMART gaining traction on social media.

The job seekers are demanding compensation for the days they worked and are calling for a resolution to what they describe as being used to “slave away for them when they were busiest.”

Quickmart has not issued a response to these claims.
