Civil rights champion Martin Luther King, Jr. once delivered a powerful speech with this resonant line:
“The arc of the moral universe is long, but it bends toward justice.”
Linus Kaikai’s kicker against religion 2 weeks ago comes under the backdrop of Githeri media’s aiding and abetting religious fraud, by providing live coverage and glorifying these men of the cloth, elevating them to pop-star status.
Indeed as Linus Kaikai threw jabs at “Prophet” Owuor, he conveniently forgot that he was the one who provided free media airtime to the rogue religious conman, back when he was the head of broadcasting at NTV. Kaikai would decline to buy rights for sporting events but provide live coverage to Owuor’s shenanigans.
But it’s never too late to change.
We are reminded of Githeri media’s prominent role of elevating conmen like Wilkins Fadhili, and creating fake schemes like “Top 40 under 40” to reward charlatans and shameless self-promoters who are lazy to develop new ideas and want to beat the queue and gain a head-start in life.
All this could not have been possible without the able participation of Githeri media.
Today we are being bombarded with images of “victims” of Gakuyo Land Scam, who are currently lining up at the DCI headquarters after being manipulated by Kameme FM news anchors, into investing in the sham land buying scheme.
There are more victims of fraud by companies hyped by Maina Kageni of Classic 105 FM, including phantom companies like Brian Gachari’s Property Reality Company (PRC), Dinara Investments, and the likes.
Linus Kaikai received unmitigated threats from a “pastor” who is a creation of the media. This same pastor has evaded justice after killing a pedestrian in a freak road accident along the Eastern Bypass. The same pastor has also ruined the career of Rose Muhando through wife-battering and aimless mind-manipulation.
It is good for Linus to endure this torture from the same people he and his Githeri media colleagues propped up.
We live in a society where real heroes are deliberately shunned by a partisan media set-up, simply because they don’t have time or money to bribe journalists. This glamorizing of clergy has come at huge cost to this country.
Today, Githeri media has the opportunity to right their wrongs by ceasing henceforth, all forms of broadcast or transmission of live church services. Githeri media should also cease bringing us Sunday morning shows with DJ’s pretending to have gospel shows. Use that time to bring programs that can widen children’s knowledge like science shows, or something.
We should not make religion look like an economic activity. It actually dumbs down the population, leaving them at the mercy of conmen like “bishop” Gakuyo and “pastor” Nganga.
It’s not too late to do the right thing members of the “Githeri” Media. You have failed this country severally and it’s time to make it right. You have peddled vanity and shunned people of substance. You have elevated prostitutes and turned their business into mainstream thinking. Now young bitches in campus all aspire to be like Huddah and Vera Sidika.
This is all your doing Githeri media. You have abused your dominance and allowed conmen to exploit poor, innocent Kenyans. It shows that self-regulation hasn’t worked for media and we are now calling for its regulation. So that content flowing through mainstream media can be screened, vetted.
