About King Fahd International Airport
King Fahd International Airport (KFIA), also known as Dammam Airport, is located 31 kilometers northwest of downtown Dammam, Saudi Arabia.
It serves the entire Eastern Province and is one of the four primary international airports in the kingdom.
Originally a US airbase during the Gulf War, KFIA transitioned to commercial operations in 1999, now connecting to 43 destinations.
Managed by DACO since 2017, KFIA paused due to COVID-19, resuming operations in May 2020 and 2021.
As Saudi Arabia’s third-largest airport, it serves as a hub for Saudia and Flynas, formerly for Sama Airlines, and supports Saudi Aramco Aviation for employee transport.
The airport features two 4-kilometer runways and three terminal buildings: Passenger, Aramco, and Royal Terminals.
The busiest route connects Dammam to Dubai, with 70 weekly flights.
History Of King Fahd International Airport
King Fahd International Airport, named after King Fahd (r. 1982–2005), began construction and design in 1976.
Yamasaki & Associates and Boeing developed the site plan in 1977, with construction starting in 1983.
The airport’s basic infrastructure was completed by the end of 1990, allowing its use by U.S.-led coalition forces during the Gulf War in early 1991.
The General Authority of Civil Aviation inaugurated it on 28 November 1999, with all airlines transferring operations from Dhahran International Airport.
In July 2017, King Fahd International became corporatized under the Dammam Airports Company (DACO).
Due to COVID-19, all flights were suspended on 21 March 2020, with domestic flights resuming on 31 May 2020 and international flights on 18 May 2021.
