In 1999, Destiny’s Child achieved a breakthrough success with the release of their second album, “Writings on the Wall,” which featured “Say My Name” as its third single. The song, recorded by the group’s original members Beyoncé Knowles, Kelly Rowland, LeToya Luckett, and LaTavia Roberson, became a critical point in the band’s future when the accompanying music video featured new members Michelle Williams and Farrah Franklin instead of LeToya and LaTavia.
While some reports suggest that LeToya and LaTavia were unaware of their dismissal until they saw the video, Beyoncé and Kelly denied this. Michelle Williams, who joined the band after meeting them while touring with R&B singer Monica, revealed that the “Say My Name” video shoot was a pivotal moment in her life, as she had to choose between pursuing her interest in criminal justice or continuing her music career.
