Terry Muikamba, a former radio presenter at Classic 105, lost a lawsuit against her former employer, Radio Africa Group, in which she sought compensation of Sh5.6M for alleged constructive dismissal.
Muikamba filed the lawsuit in 2021, claiming that she was forced to resign from the company in 2020 due to a toxic work environment and harassment from the director of programs, Mr. Peter Sinclair.
However, the Employment and Labour Relations Court in Nairobi dismissed her claims on May 30, 2023, stating that she left employment voluntarily for better opportunities, despite the company offering her an enhanced package.
The court ruled that Muikamba had not established the necessary elements to recover damages from Radio Africa Group and granted her only Sh6,000 for her voice-over services.
Muikamba has since taken to social media to share a statement regarding the court ruling, saying that her intention was to create awareness and encourage a transformative change in the workplace culture.
She also said that she was content and peaceful with her decision to pursue justice and that her actions had sparked important conversations and investigations within the media industry.
“Two years ago, I took legal action against my former employer, it was not a decision I took lightly. My intention was to create awareness and encourage a transformative change in the workplace culture. It would be disingenuous to claim a complete triumph,” Muikamba said.
“However, I firmly believe that the pursuit of justice was never solely about winning every claim; it was about standing up for what is right,” she added.

Muikamba currently works at Hot 96, a station owned by Royal Media Services.
She joined Hot 96 in 2020 after leaving Classic 105.
