Who is Mia Shem?
Mia Shem, a young Israeli woman, is currently in the custody of Hamas militants.
A 21-year-old, Mia holds dual Israeli and French citizenship, and she is the eldest of three siblings, as confirmed by her mother, Karen Shem.
According to Karen, Mia was among a group of approximately 250 individuals taken by Hamas.
Karen Shem relayed to Israel’s Ynet news outlet that her daughter was captured after Hamas launched an attack at the Supernova Music Festival in the Negev desert, resulting in the loss of many lives.
She made a heartfelt plea, saying, “I implore you – return my daughter to me.
Take me, do whatever you wish. Just please bring my daughter back home.”
Mia Shem Video released by Hamas
A video featuring Mia Shem, currently held by Hamas, has surfaced, in which she discusses her treatment.
Speaking in her native language, she introduced herself, saying,
“Hello, I’m Mia Shem, 21 years old, from Shoham. I’m currently in Gaza.
I returned early Saturday morning from Sderot, where I was at a party. Also I sustained a severe hand injury,” the young woman explained.
“I underwent a three-hour surgery on my hand at a Gaza hospital.
They are taking good care of me, providing medication, and everything is alright.”
She continued, “My only request is to be reunited with my parents and siblings as soon as possible. Please get me out of here as soon as you can.”
However, the Israel Defence Forces (IDF) criticized the video in a statement on Monday, alleging that Hamas was merely presenting a benevolent image in public, but their true nature was different.
“Last week, Mia was taken captive by Hamas. IDF officials have informed Mia’s family and maintain ongoing contact with them,” the IDF shared on social media.
“In the video released by Hamas, they attempt to portray themselves as compassionate.
However, they are a dreadful terrorist organization responsible for the killing and abduction of infants, children, men, women, and the elderly.
At this time, we are employing all intelligence and operational measures to secure the release of all hostages, including Mia.”
