A tragic incident involving excessive speed led to a fatal crash on Friday night, near the UNO campus, as reported by the Omaha police.
On that fateful evening, Omaha Police Department (OPD) received a distress call around 10:30 p.m., alerting them to the 62nd and Dodge streets vicinity.
Tragically, 22-year-old Anna Bosma, hailing from Sioux Falls, S.D., lost her life at the scene, despite the efforts of medics and arriving officers.
The subsequent investigation unveiled that a black 2019 Mercedes and a black 2014 Buick Encore were racing down Dodge Street in a westward direction, traveling at dangerously high speeds.
In a harrowing turn of events, the Mercedes lost control, swerving into the opposing eastbound traffic lane, leading to a catastrophic collision with Anna Bosma’s 2015 Chevy Cruze.
The car’s passenger was transported to Nebraska Medicine for medical attention.
In connection to this devastating incident, an arrest warrant has been issued for Dr. Mark A. Carlson, a 60-year-old individual allegedly involved in the crash.
Omaha Police revealed that the event on Friday, September 1st, was linked to road rage or racing.
Court records have brought to light security footage confirming Carlson’s presence at the crash scene.
According to investigators, Carlson reportedly struck a light pole, traversed three lanes of traffic, and ultimately collided head-on with another vehicle.
The investigation further determined that Carlson’s Mercedes was traveling at a staggering speed of 101 mph, with the accelerator fully engaged, mere moments before the fatal collision.
Dr. Carlson, a highly regarded surgeon and esteemed professor, occupies a prominent role within the College of Medicine at the prestigious University of Nebraska Medical Center.
