Cristiano Ronaldo, one of the greatest soccer players of all time, has had a turbulent relationship with Manchester United, the club that launched his international career.
After leaving the team in 2009 for Real Madrid, he returned in 2021 for a brief stint before moving to Saudi Arabia in December.
He has reportedly put his luxury mansion in Manchester up for sale, sparking rumors that he is cutting ties with the city for good.
Here’s what we know about Ronaldo’s real estate move and what it means for his future.
Did Ronaldo sell his Manchester house?
It’s been a long time since Cristiano Ronaldo left Manchester United to pursue his soccer dreams in other countries.
Now, the international star is finally ready to let go of his old home in the posh English village of Alderley Edge, not far from where he used to dazzle fans at Old Trafford.
Mr. Ronaldo, who currently plays as a forward for the Italian club Juventus, put the three-story, five-bedroom brick house on the market on Monday for £3.25 million (US$4.1 million), according to the listings.
The Portuguese footballer might have to accept a £600,000 loss on the house, which he bought for £3.895 million more than 10 years ago, according to an official document from 2007.
The pictures of the house show Mr. Ronaldo’s unexpected preference for dark and Gothic furniture.
The house is mostly decorated with black items, such as black shag and cowhide rugs, a cozy charcoal-gray sofa, and even black curtains.
The house itself has a more classic style, with light stone-tile and hardwood floors, and large windows.
The house also has some amazing features, such as a pool, a big kitchen with white and black cabinets (matching Juventus’s team colors), a steam room, a cinema room, and a gym, as shown in the pictures of the house, which is for sale with a local real estate agency called Benson Bunch.
We tried to contact the agency, but they didn’t answer.
The house has three bedrooms with their own bathrooms, including a huge master suite with two bathrooms next to each other and a walk-in closet.
This is not the first time the Portuguese footballer has tried to sell his old English home.
He put it on the market in 2013 for £3.75 million, according to an old listing for the house.
Mr. Ronaldo, who said goodbye to Manchester United in 2009, was not available for comment.
Why Ronaldo is Selling His Mansion Now?
After playing for Real Madrid and Juventus, Ronaldo returned to Manchester United in 2021.
He signed a two-year contract with the option of a third year, but he left by mutual consent in November 2021.
Ronaldo was reportedly offered a $207 million-per-year deal by Saudi Arabian club Al Nassr FC.
He accepted the offer and moved to a new home in Riyadh with his partner Georgina Rodriguez and his five children.
Ronaldo has now put his mansion in Alderley Edge up for sale again, asking for $6.5 million.
This suggests that he has no plans to return to Manchester or England anytime soon.
He may also want to invest in other properties around the world, as he has done before.
He owns two ultramodern mansions in Madrid, a luxury apartment in New York City, a villa in Marbella, and a hotel in Lisbon.
Conclusion
Cristiano Ronaldo is selling his luxury mansion in Manchester for $6.5 million, following his move to Saudi Arabia in December 2021.
He bought the house in 2007 when he played for Manchester United, but he sold it at a loss in 2019.
He returned to the club in 2021, but he left again after three months.
His fans have mixed reactions to his decision and wonder if he will ever come back to Manchester.
