Tragedy struck Winchester Road on the first day of June, as two separate vehicle crashes claimed the lives of a 30-year-old motorcyclist and a 17-year-old teenager.
Preliminary investigations revealed that both accidents were caused by the disregard of traffic signals.
The first crash occurred at 4:08 a.m. at the intersection of Winchester and Frontage roads in Murrieta.
Eric Carmona Cause Of Death
Emergency responders arrived to find the motorcyclist, identified as 30-year-old Eric Carmona, unconscious with life-threatening injuries.
Despite being rushed to a nearby hospital, Carmona was pronounced dead by the emergency room physicians.
According to the Murrieta Police Department, a preliminary report indicated that Carmona, traveling south on Winchester Road, failed to obey the traffic signal and collided with the driver’s side of a compact car.
The 19-year-old driver of the car sustained minor injuries.
Authorities determined that the primary cause of the collision was disregarding a traffic signal.
The Murrieta Police Department’s Traffic Bureau is conducting a comprehensive investigation into the crash and encourages anyone with information to contact them.
Later that evening, another fatal wreck occurred on Winchester Road.
At around 9 p.m., emergency services responded to a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of Winchester and Keller roads in Winchester.
The collision involved a GMC Sierra and a Nissan Titan.
A preliminary investigation
A preliminary investigation by the California Highway Patrol (CHP) revealed that the Nissan.
It was being driven by an 18-year-old Murrieta man, who was traveling east on Keller Road.
The GMC Sierra, heading north on Winchester, ran a red light and collided with the Nissan in the intersection.
Sadly, 17-year-old Giovanna Rizzo of Murrieta, who was in the front passenger seat of the Nissan, lost her life in the crash.
The Nissan driver and his teen sister, who was also a passenger, were airlifted to a local hospital for emergency treatment.
The condition of the injured occupants is currently unknown.
The 30-year-old Winchester man driving the GMC Sierra sustained severe injuries and was transported to a local hospital.
CHP Officer Mike Lassig stated that alcohol and drugs were not believed to be factors in the crash.
Instead, the preliminary cause was the failure to obey the traffic signal.
