President William Ruto has reportedly issued a stern warning to three senior members of his cabinet who have been neglecting their duties and “kissing the bottle” during working hours.
According to sources within the president’s circle, the three officials have been going on drinking sprees, which has caused them to lose focus on their work and led to concerns about their ability to serve Kenyans effectively.
Ruto, who never shies from expressing his “no alcohol” stance, reportedly had a sit-down with the said individuals and warned them to be serious with their work and avoid distractions that could derail their daily activities.
One of the officials in question is said to be a seasoned politician from western Kenya, holding a senior position in Ruto’s appointed cabinet.
Despite his public appearances looking calm and collected, the politician is said to frequent local drinking spots, raising concerns about his commitment to his duties.
The other two officials hail from the Mountain, where Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has been leading a campaign for the closure of bars in a bid to help curb alcoholism in the region.
The president has reportedly expressed his disappointment at the behaviour of the three and has stressed the importance of maintaining a clean and sober Cabinet.
Ruto has been holding thanksgiving prayers since his swearing-in, and it was expected that the three officials would have gotten the memo by now.
It remains to be seen how the president’s warning will be received by the officials in question.
