The National Youth Service has had an eventful few years and as such, its name evokes a lot of anger, shock and event resentment among Kenyans.
The trouble at the state corporation is always brewing.
The clean-up was a sham exercise.
When Matilda Sakwa joined as Director General in June 2018, she promised that no scandal shall ever befall the goddammed NYS, and is such a thing happened, then “…you’ll ask me that day. You’ll find me at Lang’ata Women’s Prison. Nobody is ready to go to Lang’ata.”
Well, many issues of non-payment and mistreatment of recruits have been exposed by this site. Matilda is not in prison, she sits pretty at her 5th floor office at NYS headquarters in Ruaraka, Nairobi.
More than a year on the job, what has Ms. Sakwa done about ‘weak checks, planning systems and spending modules’ that allowed cartels to thrive?.
Who is eating money meant for recruits in training.
Youths are the most misused people in this country. Most recruits in the training camps are suffering more than prisoners.
Is she hiding behind religion?
When Githeri media interviewed Matilda Sakwa in August 2018, she confessed that she had feared that the job she was about to take in June was not a great one.
Two former Director Generals, Nelson Githinji and Richard Ethan Ndubai had been fired from the position unceremoniously due to scandals.
Sakwa said she had convinced herself to take the job after a lot of prayers.
Get over it ma’am. The honeymoon is over and Kenyan youths recruited by NYS want action, they need care and to be treated like human beings.
Prayers cannot help them.
And Kenyans are often duped by ‘prayerful leaders’. This time NO.
