The three police guards attached to the elite Presidential Escort Unit who aided the escape of Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi were served with show-cause letters on Friday.
The officers – a chief inspector and two constables – are attached to the Deputy President William Ruto but were found in the home of the Mp when police had gone to arrest him.
They were summoned to police headquarters where they were grilled and later given a day to respond to the accusations but they gave their response before they handed the show-cause letters.
There are indications that the officers will be transferred from the DP’s pool and sent to other places. The questioning panel was not pleased with the officers’ response and is most likely to recommend they are transferred if not taken to court.
The officers were asked to explain their mission in Sudi’s home on September 11 when a team of officers broke in to arrest him.
Reports indicate that they had escorted Ruto to his Sugoi residence, where they handed him over to the GSU officers guarding his home.
They then drove to join Sudi home where they were found when the police arrived.
The elite officers did not identify themselves immediately even after shots were fired at the entrance when the regular police forced their way in.
