In Loving Memory of Sophia Smrz – A Bright Star from Marshfield High School
Sophia Smrz, a vibrant 17-year-old from Junction City and a senior at Marshfield High School, tragically lost her life in a car accident on a Friday morning while en route to her swim practice.
The entire community is deeply saddened by this devastating loss.
The accident was reported to the Wood County Dispatch Centre at 5:44 in the morning, in the Town of Auburndale, near the intersection of County Highway Y and Shady Road.
According to a news release from the Wood County Sheriff’s Department, two vehicles collided at this intersection and came to a rest off the road.
Sophia, driving her vehicle west on County Highway Y, was involved in the accident with Jason Peterson, 46, of Arpin, who was traveling north on Shady Road.
Tragically, Sophia Smrz was declared deceased at the scene of the accident, while Jason Peterson was transported to Marshfield Medical Centre, where he is being treated for injuries of unknown severity.
The Wisconsin State Patrol and the Wood County Sheriff’s Office are currently conducting a thorough investigation into the circumstances of the accident.
They are working diligently to piece together the events leading up to this tragic incident.
