The incident began with Laprise entering the Bristol Police Department around 10:35 p.m. on a Thursday, as shown in lobby footage from the Connecticut Office of Inspector General.
Even though there was no one at the front desk, she repeatedly banged on the window with a revolver, seemingly trying to get the attention of someone behind the glass.
In an empty lobby, Laprise resorted to firing several shots into the window when she received no response and grew increasingly frustrated.
After a pause, an officer cautiously approached Laprise from behind a door to initiate negotiations, but she reacted by firing another shot.
Bodycam footage from Connecticut station WTNH showed several officers gathering behind a different hallway door.
One of the officers asked his colleagues, “Are these windows bulletproof?” before firing his rifle twice.
The bulletproof glass effectively prevented Officer Spencer Boisvert’s attempts to shoot Laprise when she fired back, according to the Connecticut Office of Inspector General.
Later, Laprise put down her weapon but continued to behave erratically and violently in the lobby, yelling and banging on the walls.
At a crucial moment, eight officers rushed into the foyer to subdue Laprise and used an electrical control device to immobilize her.
Surprisingly, neither Laprise nor any of the officers sustained major injuries during this tumultuous encounter.
