The distressing incident took place on Wednesday afternoon near the Marienbruecke, a renowned bridge offering a picturesque view of Neuschwanstein.

Luring the Victims
According to authorities, the 30-year-old suspect encountered the two female tourists, aged 21 and 22, on a hiking path and enticed them onto a trail leading to a viewpoint.
Law enforcement officials, in a statement, revealed that the younger woman was initially attacked by the suspect, prompting the older woman to rush to her aid.
Sadly, the assailant choked the older woman and subsequently pushed her down a slope.
Attempted Sexual Assault and Fatal Fall
In a disturbing turn of events, it appears that the assailant then tried to sexually assault the 21-year-old victim before forcefully pushing her down the steep slope as well.
She fell nearly 50 meters (165 feet) and ended up near her injured friend.
A mountain rescue team reached both women, with the 22-year-old showing signs of responsiveness and being transported to a hospital.
Unfortunately, the 21-year-old sustained severe injuries and succumbed to them overnight at a different hospital.
Arrest and Eyewitness Account
The suspect fled the scene but was swiftly apprehended in close proximity.
A bystander captured a video showing the handcuffed suspect being led away by the police.
Eric Abneri, who filmed the incident, described the man as having scratches across his face.
Abneri expressed his astonishment at the fact that anyone survived such a fall, likening it to descending from the top of a cliff.
He commended the rescue team for their remarkable efforts, noting the challenging nature of the rescue operation due to the treacherous cliffs and the helicopter’s proximity to the treetops.
Investigation and Legal Proceedings
The arrested individual is an American tourist, according to the authorities, while the victims were also U.S. citizens.
The suspect remains in custody as a judge in nearby Kempten ordered his detention pending a potential indictment.
The investigation is underway, with the suspect facing potential charges of murder, attempted murder, and a sexual offense.
Police and prosecutors are urging any witnesses to come forward to aid in reconstructing the sequence of events.
