Crackdown on matatus with TVS to begin tomorrow

[ad_1]

All matatus fitted with screens and TVs will now be required to get an annual licence following a new directive from Kenya Film and Classification Board( KFCB ).

The matatus owners will part with 2000 annual licencing (certificate of Approval ) fee or else pay a fine not less than Ksh 100,000 or a jail term not exceeding 5 years or both.

The CEO of KFCB Ezekiel Mutua says the move is geared towards controlling the content that children are exposed to in public transport.

“We are however saddened to learn that there are rogue drivers and conductors who have defied our regulatory guidelines and have turned their vehicles into discotheques, Exhibiting dirty content with impunity and inconveniencing their passengers” said Mutua.

The moral regulator has set a hotline number for members of the public to report any cases of inappropriate content exhibited in public service vehicles in any part of the country
