Public Healthcare services in Wajir are in limbo.
The county referral hospital is facing crisis of unprecedented levels.
The problem ranges from lack of essential drugs, lab reagents, oxygen to demoralized staff. There is also shortage of PPEs for frontline health workers since national government corona donations are getting exhausted.
A few days ago, a Mzee Abdi Golo (Allah yarxam) passed on due to lack of oxygen at the isolation facility.
This is not the first incident of its kind. Sadly, the daughter of the late Abdi Golo is the County Health Promotion Officer.
The Healthcare workers are really frustrated due poor working conditions, lack of promotions and inadequate opportunities for career development.
What do you expect from a demoralized worker?
Nursing services happen to be the backbone of a working healthcare system.
From reliable sources, the nurses have now issued a notice of strike.
This was preceded by numerous negotiations and agreements that were never implemented.
About 150 health facilities spread across the county are now closed.
