Within this national health insurance scheme, members have the flexibility to modify their preferred hospitals on a quarterly basis.
For super cover members (March, June, September, and December) and biannually for civil servants in job groups A to K.

NHIF Hospital Selection Via Self-care Portal
The step-by-step procedure on the NHIF self-care website facilitates the straightforward selection of an outpatient hospital.
Navigate to the self-care portal and select “Log In Now.”
Input your ID number and press enter.
Proceed by clicking “Continue.”
Verify your identity by entering the one-time PIN (OTP) sent to your phone.
After verification, access the dashboard and choose “Change Outpatient Facility” or “Choose Outpatient Facility.”
Follow the ensuing steps to seamlessly select or designate a facility for both yourself and all registered dependents.

Find the app on your Apple or Play store and follow these steps:
- Download the my NHIF self-care App from Google Play Store or Apple Store.
- Open the app and tap on “other services.”
- Input your ID number.
- Request a one-time PIN (OTP) to be sent to your phone number instantly.
- Enter the OTP to log in.
- Once logged in, choose “Choose Outpatient Facility” or “Change Outpatient Facility” based on your preference.
- You’ll see your name and a list of dependents. Click “Change the Outpatient Facility” for yourself and each dependent.
- Select your preferred facility.
NHIF Facility Change via USSD
Opting for, altering, or confirming your existing outpatient hospital is simplified through the official USSD code.
Follow these steps to successfully complete the process:
- Dial *155# on your mobile phone.
- Choose your preferred language (English or Kiswahili).
- Enter your ID number.
- Receive an OTP via SMS.
- Enter the OTP code received and press Send.
- From the pop-up screen, select “Choose Outpatient Facility” or “Change Outpatient Facility.”
- Pick a facility from the provided list.
- For dependents, select the dependent, and search for the hospital name for registration.
- Follow the on-screen directions to select a healthcare facility for all your dependents.
