About Riley Fox Death

Riley’s father initially accused someone, but later DNA evidence cleared him. Scott Eby, a parolee, confessed to the crime and was found guilty.

Warren and her group reinvigorated the investigation, which had nearly stopped. She said the agent had wanted to solve the case for a while and was determined to find Riley’s killer.

In an exclusive interview with “20/20,” Warren said, “You can’t help but want justice for this child. I saw this young girl, so beautiful and full of life.”

On June 6, 2004, Riley was found dead in a creek near her home in Wilmington, Illinois. She had been gagged, tied up, and sexually assaulted. Later, it was determined that she had drowned and died.

Riley Fox Parents: Kevin and Mother Melissa Fox Hodgen

Riley Fox’s parents are Kevin and Melissa Fox Hodgen. On the night Riley was abducted, June 6, 2004, her father, Kevin Fox, picked up his children from their grandmother’s house at around 1 a.m.

Kevin Fox, Riley’s father, faced initial accusations due to a forced confession.

He spent eight months in prison before DNA evidence showed someone else committed the crime, leading to his release.

He put Riley on the couch and her older brother, Tyler, on a living room chair because their beds lacked clean sheets and blankets.

After watching TV in his room, he went to bed at 2:30 a.m. The following morning, Tyler woke him up and told him Riley was missing. He searched and asked around before calling 911.

Riley was found dead later that day at the Forsythe Woods County Forest Preserve, a public park in Wilmington.

She had been sexually assaulted, tied up, and gagged before being discovered face down in a stream.

The death of Kevin Fox, Riley’s father

Kevin Fox, a former Wilmington resident wrongly held by the Will County Sheriff’s Department in the summer of 2004 for his 3-year-old daughter Riley Fox’s death, died in an Arkansas head-on collision on Monday. He was 46 years old.

Kevin was one of the bravest clients I’ve ever had, said Kathleen Zellner, the attorney who fought for his release from wrongful conviction, in a letter to the Joliet Patch on Tuesday.

He will be remembered as the best parent anyone could be to their children. His passing at such a young age is a tragedy.
