Tigania East MP Gichunge Kabeabea has blamed Mr. Rogers Kipembe, the outspoken son of East Africa Legislative Assembly (EALA) member Mpuru Aburi, after his Toyota Land Cruiser Prado was set ablaze and its three occupants allegedly kidnapped.
The incident occurred on the night of Saturday, August 6, at around 10 p.m. near Thiiti bridge, about one and a half kilometers from Mikinduri town in Meru County.
Speaking on Sunday, August 7, Mr. Kabeabea claimed that the driver of the vehicle, Mr. Moses Karani, and his two aides, Mr. Kizito Muketha and Mr. William Karithi Ruto, were abducted at the scene of the crime by people claiming to be police officers.
He added that the attacks were organized by Mr. Kipembe, saying his team was pelted with stones by goons earlier in the day while campaigning in Athwana ward.
On his part, Mr. Kipembe has fired back at the MP, accusing him of stage-managing the incident so that residents could give him sympathy votes.
Speaking to journalists, he insisted that Mr. Kabeabea was used to such theatrics, adding that he employed the same tricks during the 2017 elections.
