A grisly road accident on the Northern Bypass has claimed the life of Steve Chege, a budding politician from Laikipia County.
Sources say that his Toyota saloon car was speeding along the highway when he suddenly encountered a bodaboda operator riding in the wrong direction.
To avoid a head-on collision, he quickly swerved his vehicle, only to hit road barriers.
This sent the car spinning in the air, and it landed in a ditch a few meters away.
The accident took place on Sunday, October 30, and the victim was first rushed to KUTRR Hospital, where he was recuperating in the ICU before his eventual demise.
It is suspected he lost too much blood.
Mr. Chege was an adherent member of the Jubilee Youth League – a group of patriotic junior leaders that help coordinate the party’s grassroots activities.
He vied for the Laikipia County Senate Seat in the recently concluded elections.
Those close to Steve Chege have mourned him as a promising young man who had great dreams for leadership.
“He was a guy whose future was well-defined,” a friend who sought anonymity told us.
May his soul rest in Eternal Peace.
The incident happened on the same day a nasty road accident on the Eastern bypass in Ruiru killed three people, including an 11-year-old child.
The Sunday morning accident reportedly occurred near Green Valley Estate after a speeding Toyota Prado hit a tuk-tuk which then rammed into the matatu in front of it, leaving the helpless passengers sandwiched between the two vehicles.
