A section of Gusii leaders allied to Deputy President William Ruto have condemned Kisii county governor James Ongwae for allegedly harassing his deputy Joash Maangi.
The leaders led by South Mugirango Member
of Parliament Sylvanus Osoro accused Governor Ongwae of allegedly denying his
Deputy Maangi access to his official office in the county and withdrawing his
official cars.
Flanked by North Mugirango MP Joash Nyamoko,
Nominated Senator Millicent Omanga, businessman Don Bosco Gichana, a section of
Kuria leaders among others, Osoro said the act of withdrawing Maangi’s vehicles
at 4am just before the Building Bridges Initiative, BBI, meeting in Kisii was
clearly meant to intimidate him plus those of his political persuasion from
attending the meeting.
“We wish they knew that we were not planning to attend the meeting anyway. Maangi has reported these matters to the police because he justifiably fears for his life,” Osoro said.
The leaders further accused Ongwae of using
county funds to fund the meeting and are now asking the Ethics and Anti-corruption
Commission, EACC, and the Directorate of Criminal Investigations, DCI, to
investigate corruption cases in the county including that of Nyamira County.
“We are also aware that EACC officials in Kisii County have been compromised by Governor Ongwae for they reside in his rental houses. We are therefore asking the EACC leadership from Nairobi to look into the matter,” Osoro disclosed.
Echoing the same Omanga on her part said
that Ongwae has not been probed by anti-corruption agencies due to the fact
that he is allied to those supporting the BBI further satating that those
supporting President Uhuru Kenyatta’s handshake with Opposition Chief Raila
Odinga and are pro BBI have not been touched matters corruption.
The leaders also asked Interior and
National Government Coordination Cabinet Secretary Dr Fred Matiang’I from
protecting Ongwae and his Nyamira County counterpart John Nyagarama against
corruption allegations. Matiang’i graced the BBI meeting held at Gusii stadium.
The leaders further gave notice to Ongwae
and Nyagarama that they will lead a mega demonstration that will involve 13
subcounties in Gusii region to demand service to the people of Kisii and
Nyamira counties and appealed to the people of the two counties to stand up and
demean for both justice and services.
