Study Reveals Hair Dye is Increasing Cancer Chances Among Black Women

By Virginia Mwangi / January 18, 2020 | 9:00 am

I am a die-hard fun of hair dye and currently enjoying a blonde one for that matter and the release by The International Journal of Cancer that states that the use of permanent hair dye increases cancer chances by 60 percent has left me troubled.

If you do not use hair dye, then do not start a report published in The International Journal of Cancer has revealed that if you do not, then you have a 60 percent lesser chance of getting cancer.

The study states that whites are not affected by the permanent hair dyes compared to people of another race.

The difference in cancerous effects of permanent hair dye dependent on race was blamed on the manner in which the dyes were manufactured.

The report published on The International Journal of Cancer states that the permanent dye products contained substances that interfered with the way hormones act in the body and in turn caused birth defects and growth of cancerous tumors.

“Products used predominantly by black women may contain more hormonally active compounds,” the report published on The International Journal of Cancer said.

Other hair products mentioned as unsafe and responsible for the rise of breast cancer amongst women in The International Journal of Cancer include straighteners which were blamed for a 30 percent increase in developing cancer for women of all races.

Hair chemicals were also mentioned as unsafe by The International Journal of Cancer with black people becoming more predisposed as their hair is coarser and entangled.

The link between cancer and the dyes, the authors said, was weak due to the number of women surveyed, but they expressed concern especially when it comes to permanent dyes.

The report published on The International Journal of Cancer brings to question exactly what is safe for the women’s beauty industry as most of the products from cosmetics to hair are deemed cancerous.
