Workers at Nice Digital City Mwea are up in arms against a newly implemented “no phones” rule which strictly prohibits them from accessing their mobile devices for a whole 12-hour shift.
Writing to this blog on Tuesday, October 18, a staff member who sought anonymity argued that the regulation is a major inconvenience for working mothers who ought to stay in touch with their kids at home.
In a world not short of sudden emergencies, a majority of the workforce views the restriction as not only unfair but an infringement of their rights and to an extent, their personal lives.
Unfortunately, all their complaints to Nice Digital City manager, Linet Kinya, have fallen on deaf ears.
The workers now hope that by gathering the courage to speak out, their grievances will reach the owners of the multimillion ultra-modern mall located in Mwea along the Nairobi-Meru highway.
“Hi, Nyakundi,
Kindly highlight an issue inatusumbua Nice Digital City Mwea.
Workers wanaambiwa hakuna simu na wako na watoto wadogo.
I feel sio poa na infringment ya private life.
In case of emergency na workers wako na watoto wadogo sio poa.
Na ni over 500 workers for 12-hour shifts.
Linet Kinya is the manager,” the source writes.
Nice Digital City is owned and operated by Njiru Mkombozi, on top of owning Nice Rice.
Currently, his milling company processes 50% of all the rice produced in the Mwea region.
