The RECCE squad officer arrested by the police in connection with the murder probe linking TV Journalist Jacque Maribe and her fiancé Joseph Irungu had told police that Irungu went to the house of the killed woman Monicah Nyawira. the star reports
Jennings Orlando, told the police he did not accompany Irungu alias Jowie to the house of Nyawira in Kilimani, the night before her body was discovered dead in her house.
Orlando, who initially denied any knowledge of the incident, changed his position at the weekend and told the investigators how he met Jowie at a bar in Nairobi before he (Jowie) went to the house of Nyawira.
Sources familiar with the investigations said the policeman and Irungu had a meeting in Nairobi on September 19th.
Orlando told homicide investigators that Irungu had called him from his place of work in Ruiru and asked him to meet him in Nairobi for a drink.
The two had drinks at a bar in Kilimani for starting around 6pm until 8 pm.
They were also in the company of two women who have also been questioned by the police.
At around 8 pm, Jowie told Orlando that he wanted to visit a friend in Kilimani who had come flown from Southern Sudan.
They agreed to change the venue.
The two drove in the car owned by Maribe. Jowie drove the vehicle and dropped him at a petrol station in Kilimani that also has a bar and asked Orlando to wait for him.
Jowie returned to the bar where Orlando was waiting for him at around 11 pm but did not discuss anything related to the murder of Nyawira.
Orlando was arrested by the police last Friday after forensic investigations of Jowies mobile phone revealed that the two were in communication before and after the murder of Nyawira.
Last Friday, Orlando told investigators that he had known Jowie for only three months.
He also denied stepping foot in Nyawira’s house. He told the police that he was shocked to learn of Jowies arrest in connection with the murder.
“From his statement, we think he should be a witness rather than an accused person, “said a detective familiar with the probe.
Asked why he had not volunteered information to the police, Orlando said he was in shock after learning of the incident.
Maribe and the fiancée have been detained in Prison after they denied charges of killing Nyawira.
