EACC Blames DCI For The Botched Arrest Of Senior NHIF Executives

A senior Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission official that we have spoken to has totally denied reports that they were involved in the arrest and illegal freeing of senior NHIF officials over a scandal that saw the fund lose Ksh. 400 Million.
The senior EACC official also told the editor of this site that on the material day, it is only the Directorate of Criminal Investigations that were involved in the arrest but freed NHIF CEO Geoffrey Mwangi and some procurement officials after a call from Deputy President William Ruto.

As we revealed earlier, the DP gave a cock and bull story that NHIF was in the big four agenda and arresting the officials would show a bad picture. This is despite the fact that money was looted, and there are mountains of evidence to prove that.

The scandal, involved loss of more than Sh400 million paid out for a medical scheme for civil servants, police and prison officers.

This is after the National Hospital Insurance Fund paid two bidders against an order by the Public

Procurement Administrative Review Board. Britam Life Assurance Company (K) Ltd and Pioneer Assurance Company Ltd were awarded the tender, despite quoting high prices.

The board had ruled that the award was irregular and ordered that NHIF contracts UAP Life Assurance Limited at its tender sum of Sh797,623,500.

The tender was for the provision of the Group Life Cover and last expense for civil servants, National Police Service and Kenya Prisons Service for the 2017-2018.

The EACC official, however, could not explain why they have not themselves followed up on the matter despite the evidence. This is raising eyebrows with credible sources saying the NHIF CEO Geoffrey Mwangi might have bribed the EACC, not to act.

Mwangi has also started fighting people at the NHIF as he suspects that they are the ones leaking his scandals, that have become too many.

The NHIF Board is also very concerned with his corruption but maybe scared of doing anything because of his big connections, that also helped free him after he was arrested for four hours.

The embattled National Hospital Insurance Fund CEO Geoffrey Mwangi has looted approximately Ksh. 6 Billion from the state corporation, further sources have revealed.

It is chilling and hard to comprehend why State-House would stop the arrest and prosecution of Geoffrey Mwangi, yet President Uhuru Kenyatta has listed Universal Healthcare is a key enabler of his ‘Big Four’ legacy plan.
