A tout in Kisauni was rushed to the hospital after police shot him on his neck. The 28 year old identified as Ali Athman also sustained some injuries on his chest and is currently being treated at Sayyida Fatimah Hospital in Kisauni.
The tout is believed to have been caught up in an operation by police officers in Kisauni amid the rise of insecurity in the area. A stray bullet hit Ali and his family is now demanding for justice.
Just a few months ago, another similar incident was reported when a tout was killed in Changamwe area during a crackdown on street gangs ordered by Inspector General Joseph Boinett, raising questions on the number of extrajudicial killings in the area.
Activism groups are now blaming the deaths of young people in the costal region on the Inspector General’s orders. They have also condemned the reckless shooting by police officers.
