Pumwani Maternity Hospital has always been in the headlines for all the wrong reasons; from baby stealing to lactating mothers sharing a bed, to dilapidated infrastructure that makes it look like a house of horror.
Despite the efforts to make the hospital better, nothing has changed.
The semi-literate Nairobi Governor Mile Sonko agreed to privatise this only solace for the poor.
Privatization was not the solution. Pumwani can be made better.
The editor of this site received below information that is heartbreaking about the plight of a pregnant lady at Pumwani.

Hello Mr Nyakundi,
I need your help please.
I had taken my wife to Pumwani for infant delivery, since 24th march up to today 31st, she hasn’t given birth due to some complications.
She was told that Caesarean Section (CS) can make her deliver the baby yesterday on 30th but the doctor revoked stating that the the birth way is open and she can deliver normal.
After being patient on the issue, the doctor punctured the amniotic sac at at 1800hrs yesterday so as to speed up the birth process. However, after another check up the doctor again said that normal delivery would be hard and that CS is the only option.
Now that they had refused to do CD on her, they keep on changing the story and my wife is at risk of dying. When I ask them why they are not taking her to the operating theater, they say the queue is long.
I’m afraid I might lose her, because the baby is tired at this time and I’m confused, i dont know what to do.
I tried asking for discharge so that i can transfer her to a private hospital but they’ve refused.
What can i do?
She might die at Pumwani. These guys are not helping me. They’ve refused to give me her prenatal book (of records) so that i can transfer her to another hospital ???.
Hide my identity and help me please Nyakundi I know u can make it
