Police in Nyeri have issued a warrant of arrest against Nyeri Deputy Speaker Samuel Kariuki who was caught on camera assaulting a youth after rival groups allied to the Kieleweke and Tanga Tanga factions clashed at Giakanja Boys Secondary School on Sunday.
In a video clip capturing the incident, Kariuki, who is also the MCA for Ruring’u Ward and allied to the Tanga Tanga wing, is seen ruthlessly beating up the young man with a wooden rod as other locals cheer him on.
Due to the heavy beating, the man falls to the ground and as he attempts to rise up and flee, the deputy speaker runs after him and continues to strike him hard.
Confirming the arrest warrant, Central Regional Commissioner Wilfred Nyagwanga said all those who were in involved in Sunday’s fracas will be arrested and presented in court.
At least 10 youth armed with crude weapons were arrested during the chaos which erupted ahead of a fundraiser where Deputy President William Ruto was the chief guest.
Police were forced to fire in the air and lob teargas canisters to disperse the youth.
Some of the youth were captured chanting pro-Ruto slogans at they set on fire t-shirts branded “No 2022 politics.”
