On August 6th 2020, a fire razed down businesses in Umoja Estate’s Tena area.
A hotel-worker identified as Tony died in the night inferno.
Cnyakundi.com has received information that makes the fire incident very suspicious.
Business people who were affected allege that the fire is an attempt to grab the site by the Area MP George Theuri, Umoja 1 MCA Mark Ronaldo Macharia and Umoja 2 MCA Joseph Donji.
It is curious that when they reported the fire incident at the Buruburu Police Station, which has jurisdiction over Umoja Estate, they were turned away and told to report to the nearby Umoja Estate Patrol base.
The patrol base commander refused to give them an Occurrence Book (OB) number to this day.
‘There have been attempts to remove us from this site. All leaders in the area, including the police have colluded to take away a place we have known for many years’.
In the past, the Umoja 1 MCA sent a bulldozer and demolished part of the businesses but they rebuilt.
The business people now believe the fire is part of the larger scheme to grab the site because other nearby businesses have not been told to vacate, only businesses built on the area that the fire incident occurred.
A spot check of the area, shows a nearby carwash, an initiative that clearly states to be of MP Theuri.
It is even more suspicious that the area has an empty land nearby that was earmarked for a hospital during David Mwenje’s time. That initiative still hasn’t materialized. Instead, the land was ‘grabbed’ and a police patrol base build, a temporary football field also stands on the land. There’s also an upcoming garbage dumpsite.

The sad part is that after the fire incident, the area MCA Mark ‘Ronaldo’ Mugambi came to access the damage but never provided any help to his voters to rebuild their businesses.
Business people that were affected asked MP Theuri for help but he was adamant.
Sources say the MP, MCA for Umoja 1 Mark Ronaldo and Umoja 2 MCA Joseph Donji are eyeing the land so as to put up a pub.
“There are many competing pubs around here, that is what drives them to think they can just push me out after nearly twenty years of conducting business here”, said a business person who spoke to cnyakundi.com.
What is worse is that the area requires makeshift structures, and is best suited for garbage sorting and not permanent houses.
Whatever the trio, the axis of evil are planning is illegal and uncalled for.
