Concerned Parent Unearths Rot At Nyahera Girls Secondary School

A concerned parent at Engineer Peter Owidi Nyahera Girls, located in Kowidi Location within Homa Bay County, has come out to express disapproval of the current worrying state of affairs at the boarding secondary school.

While some honourably run schools in other parts of the country admit students free of charge, the administration at Nyahera Girls has reportedly turned the process into a money-making scheme by demanding unjustified exorbitant amounts.

For instance, despite the government providing the same, the school has requested students to buy expensive exercise books which are compulsory for admission.

On top of this, they have to fork out Sh1,000 for remedial teaching and Sh2,000 in the name of child development.

Funny enough, guardians are strictly asked to deposit the money in cash and not through the official school bank account.

The puzzle extends to the ground where members of the teaching staff claim not to be receiving any of the purported remedial funds despite being forced to report to work early from early hours of the morning to late in the night.

The administration also requires them to be in school on weekends and public holidays.

The school also lacks basic teaching and learning aid which leaves the same oppressed teachers straining to buy their own.

The principal tenders everything from uniforms to grains.

Extracurricular activities like clubs, games, drama and music are nonexistent at Nyahera Girls.

The demotivated workforce has led to a constant return of poor results with students having zero respect for their teachers who are often summoned like kids by the rogue principal.

Below is the full account as submitted to us by an insider privy to the matter.

“Hi, Nyakundi,

May you please assist me to highlight the rot in Nyahera Girls’ High School.

I have been following closely on social media and TV how principals are admitting students in various without fees.

Some without even shopping and I marvel at the better Kenya we are developing each day.

Then I am left wondering whether some students are better than others or some are more Kenyan than others.

Why can’t all students get the same treatment?

What is happening at Engineer Peter Owidi Nyahera Girls?

Is the TSC aware?

Is the Ministry of Education providing books only for a few schools and neglecting some?

Somebody make me understand, why were the form one students who reported sent away to buy 15 A4 200 pages exercise books while other students elsewhere were provided with books?

Can’t they be lenient enough to allow the students to report with even A5 books?

Parents have strained buy shopping, paying fees, only to be sent away buy books!

That is so unfair!

The parents of the so-called Nyahera girls at Oyugis town in Homabay County need an explanation.

Being forced to pay Sh1,000 remedial money for extra lessons and Sh2,000 for development which is paid in cash and not through the school account.

Is this acceptable still in Kenya?

What sort of development cannot be accounted for from the school account, why cash?

I get to learn that even the so-called remedial money is not given to teachers.

The administrator pockets it all and forces teachers to be in school from 6:50 am up to 10 pm so that the parents may not riot over the money they pay.

Teachers are forced to be in school during public holidays and weekends to cater for the administrator’s selfish interests.

Failure to which they are quarrelled out of classes, ashamed in front of students and if you are lucky to be a TSC teacher threatened of a transfer.

The B.O.M teachers are dismissed at will.

If you happen to say anything negative against the goddess, you are gone!

Because they have to maintain their jobs they have to be in school up to 11 pm and as early as 4 am.

The school has no basic teaching and learning aids like whiteboard markers.

Teachers buy their own or strain to share the limited that were brought last year but one.

Manilla papers are brought termly by students and kept in the principal’s house where they are never available when teachers need them.

The principal tenders everything from uniforms to grains.

No extracurricular activities in this school, no clubs, no games or drama and music in the name the school has no money yet it’s an extra county school.

Teachers have been demotivated and they are just in school for the sake.

It performs poorly as the students don’t even respect them from the harassment from the principal.

She can summon a teacher rudely from class to follow her and explain what she heard they said against her!” the source writes.
