Kasarani-based Ongata Works Limited is facing allegations of delayed dues from a section of its workforce currently assigned to the ongoing project of upgrading the Lanet Military Airstrip to a fully-fledged international Public Airport.
The protesting employees claim they have now gone over 4 months without any payment from Ongata Works.
The contract to upgrade the air base falls under the Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) , which is understood to be dispensing all payments as required.
But instead of paying off their personnel, the company’s owners are splashing the cash on new machinery.
“Hello Sir,
KAA wanatoa pesa but mwenye kampuni ananunua machines kila siku but they haven’t paid us for the last four months kama ata unaeza fikia ata madam governor Susan Kihika then ntashukuru,” the source laments.
The project officially kicked off today with a groundbreaking ceremony on Dec 15, 2020 at 81 Tank Battalion, Lanet presided over by the Principal Secretary of State Department for Transport, Mr. Solomon Kitungu, and former Nakuru Governor Lee Kinyajui.
