A police officer has been arrested for allegedly defiling a Form One girl in Ndhiwa, Homa Bay four months ago.
Constable Kelvin Muturi attached to Rangwe Police Station is accused of defiling the 15-year-old secondary school student.
According to Homa Bay County Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) boss Daniel Wachira, it is suspected that Muturi committed the offense while serving at Ndhiwa Police Station.
“The suspect while on night shift sneaked to the cell and picked the minor, took her to his house within Ndhiwa Police Station where it’s reported that he sexually abused her and later allowed the minor to go back in the cell,” he said.
Wachira further revealed that the girl had been taken to the police station for protection after she moved out from her sister’s house in Ndhiwa Town.
It is alleged that the officer warned her not to reveal the issue to any of her relatives or friends.
Investigations into the incident were completed and the DCI submitted their file to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecution (ODPP) for further direction.
The ODPP then recommended immediate arrest and prosecution of the officer.
The arrest of the officer came after the family of the minor demanded for justice from the county security team.
The suspect is detained at Homa Bay Police Station and is expected to be arraigned in court on Wednesday.
