Junior staffers at the Moi University Sociology Department wrote to CNYAKUNDI.COM expressing their discontentment over what they insisted was unfair suspension by the department head Dr Baraza.
In the anonymously submitted email, they accuse Dr Baraza of having committed malpractices that might have had a negative influence in the quality of graduates the institution produces and also using his office for selfish gains.
“Dear Sir,
We were suspended by Dr Baraza due to mere allegations of purportedly abetting examination malpractises. It is quite ironic because Mr Baraza himself is responsible for a lot of undergraduate and postgraduate examination malpractices.
1. Replacing thesis supervisors with himself albeit discretly thesis which are already for examination even if he has not been one of the supervisors from the concept, proposal to final thesis.
2. Changing already constituted and approved thesis of board examiners for ultra motives by single handedly appointing his cronies for his personal gain of becoming an associate professor.
3. Constantly using his office for selfish gains.
There are high level efforts to cover post graduate thesis examination malpractices and the victims are senior people unlike us. The latest malpractice involved the thesis of Peter Murrey. Many more can be found as you go backwards.
We are suffering because we are junior staff. I am for the betterment of Moi University and that is why I decided to expose the corruption in this department so that students receive fair academic credentials rather than producing half baked graduates.
Thank You”
The staffers are calling on the relevant authorities to look into the matter before it gets any worse.
