CNYAKUNDI.COM understands that five students from Kibabii University were last Tuesday indefinitely suspended by the institution’s Vice Chancellor after they protested the delay in the arrival of HELB loans just the day before.
The students, during the protest, said that life was becoming extremely difficult due to inadequate upkeep money and were therefore heavily inconvenienced by the delay.
While speaking to this site’s chief editor, one of the students insists that there was more to the suspensions than just protesting. He links them to political differences and tribalism within the institution. He says that the names of the five, two Luos and and three from Kisii were forwarded by the school president because they were his political opponents.
“The students have been suspended to days that haven’t been stated and they are crying for justice as almost every student who is a HELB beneficiary, demontrated but why only them and why only the two tribes.
This was followed by the ‘sons of the soil’ the Bukhusus and Bungoma Luhyas in colletive, beating their chests in their university platform, MASUFARA WA KIBABII, claiming that they own the institution and every stranger should be delt with without hesitation.” said the student speaking on their behalf.
The five students are now crying for justice and are seeking any assistance for them to resume their education. Three are in their final semester and two in their third year.
Here is one of the suspension letters below.
