The Speaker of Migori County Assembly Boaz Okoth has accused ODM Secretary Edwin Sifuna of leading goons to assault him in his Kisumu home.
Mr Okoth claimed that he was beaten up as Sifuna watched. The ailing speaker said that Sifuna led the goons to his home, on Friday night at 11pm.
The speaker attributed his woes to the impending impeachment of Governor Okoth Obado that is being orchestrated by the ODM party.
He further explained that he has not received the impeachment motion that is said to have been signed by more than over 20 MCAs.
“I was attacked last night in the presence of ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna and whoever was attacking my bodyguard is his brother,” Speaker Okoth said.
On Thursday, ODM party called on the state to beef up security to Migori MCAs supporting the impeachment to avoid intimidation or being bribed by the embattled governor.
ODM chairman John Mbadi indicated that they will stand by the party decision to kick out Obado despite the intimidations to have them abort the mission.
Mbadi also alleged that some Migori County officials are funding violence in Migori with public funds.
“Those CECS, directors, suppliers, contractors and assembly officials are currently holed up in Nairobi, Kisumu and Migori. Once we forward their names, we will expect police to act with speed to arrest the individuals so that law and order is maintained and justice not subverted in Nairobi,” Mbadi added.
The Raila Odinga-led party is doing everything to send Governor Obado home after he was charged with Sh73.4 million graft.
Migori county boss was charged together with his four children and close associates.
ODM move comes barely two months after they saved Kirinyaga Anne Waiguru who was facing impeachment over similar allegations.
