An infuriated owner of a car hire agency in Mombasa county is counting major losses after a mischievous rascal fled off with one of his vehicles.
Writing to this blog on Sunday, June 19, the businessman briefed us on how the Eritrean national identified as “Filmon Bharti” approached his yard earlier this year in search of a station wagon for private use within the city.
After completing all the transactions, they rented out one of their units to Mr. Bharti.
He was to return it in April.
All along, communication was seamless.
But on the agreed deadline day, a rude shock met them when he suddenly switched off all his phones.
From this moment onwards, all efforts to access him have proved futile.
The suspect had reportedly booked a long-term stay at Pride Inn Hotel, but a routine check proved this to be false.
There is simply no trace of the guy.
“Hi, Nyakundi,
I hope you are doing well.
I am an entrepreneur in Mombasa, and part of my business involves renting out cars to clients for private use.
Earlier this year, I had this client called Filmon Bharti from Eritrea who rented a car to use in Mombasa city for some time.
He was to return the car in April, but on the material day when he was to deliver the car; he switched off his mobile phone.
I have tracked this guy all over Kenya besides the Pride Inn Hotel where he claimed to have been residing during his stay in Mombasa, and I haven’t succeeded.
The DCI has the case but so far no fruition.
I reported the case at Nyali Police Station.
Humbly, if you can please, make this matter known to the rest of your fan-following to see if anybody has gone through a similar problem because probably is a con man and has conned many.
Attached are his pictures, mobile phone number, and a copy of the passport that he provided as he rented the car,” the source says.
