The daughter of a formerly powerful Kibaki-era politician has sparked a conversation on social media after she requested assistance in settling her father’s huge hospital bill.
Through a Twitter post, Mish Chemos Serut revealed that her dad, Ex-Mt Elgon MP John Serut, has been battling a tough medical condition since last year which has incurred the family over Sh20 million in expenses.
According to the former Cabinet Minister’s daughter, in January 2020 Mr Serut was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma which is cancer that forms in a type of white blood cell called a plasma cell.
Like she explained in her thread of posts on Tuesday, 12 October, the condition affects multiple organs eg the kidneys, bones and liver.
Who is John Bomet Serut?
In his heyday, John Bomet Serut was a powerful politician who served in both parliament and cabinet.
Serut has represented Mt Elgon constituency for a period spanning 1o years.
He was first elected under a Kenya African National Union (KANU) ticket from 2002 to 2007 when he briefly lost the seat before regaining it in 2013 as an independent candidate.
During his first term, he was named Assistant Minister for National Development in the coalition government.
In his second return to parliament, he served as a member of the Departmental Committee on Labour and Social Welfare.
